Alfred The Great and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle Kätliin Soosalu

King Alfred The Great He was born in 849 He died on 26th of October, 899. In 868, Alfred married Ealhswith, daughter of Ealdorman of the Gaini. They had five or six children together

Alfred the Great was King of Wessex from 871 to 899. Alfred is noted for his defence of the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. Alfred- a learned man He encouraged education, improved his kingdom's legal system and military structure. He helped to write the Anglo -Saxon Chronicle

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle It was originally compiled on the orders of King Alfred the Great in approximately A.D. 890. The original language was Anglo-Saxon The entire Chronicle runs to almost 100,000 words

The Chronicle is not unbiased Seven of the nine surviving manuscripts and fragments now reside in the British Library. The Chronicle is the single most important historical source of Brittish history.
