Numeracy “Children are like wet cement. Whatever falls on them makes a lasting impression” – Haim Ginott How you can help…….. Create and take opportunities to get them to use number skills and do calculations Point out the maths in everyday life Include your child in activities involving numbers and measuring, such as shopping, cooking, planning journeys Be positive about maths. Try not to say things like "I can’t do maths" or "I hated maths at school" Help them to learn their tables, counting forward and back – in1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 100s etc, working out calculations mentally, helping you add the shopping bill, take away menu etc By being here tonight you are working in partnership with your child’s school   Foster resilience and perseverance- if at first... Have high, but realistic expectations
