Reported speech We use when we want to convey someone's statement is not quoting exactly what someone said, but passing the contents of the speech. In English, we use reported speech very often so mastering this material is an important step in learning the language.

Change time 1) Present Simple -> Past Simple Kasia said : "I am tired" Kasia said (that) she was tired 2) Present Continuous -> Past Continuous I said : "I am doing my homework" I said (that) I was doing my homework

3) Past Simple -> Past Perfect Bartek said : "I was in Warsaw last year" Bartek said (that) he had been in Warsaw the year before 4) Past Continuous -> Past Perfect Continuous Kacper said : "I was running" Kacper said (that) he had been running 5) Present Perfect -> Past Perfect Monika said : "I have lived in Poland" Monika said (that) she had lived in Poland
