Emulsions

WALT What are emulsions and how are they made? WILF All students can state how an emulsion is made (grade D) Most students can prepare an emulsion and draw valid conclusions from their results ( grade C) Some students can explain an emulsion using the terms hydrophilic and hydrophobic (grade A)

Starter – what do they have in common?

What is an emulsion? It is a mixture of tiny droplets of one liquid in another liquid. To hold the emulsion together another substance is used called an emulsifier

TASK 1. Carry out an investigation on emulsions using the method on the work sheet. 2. Answer the questions on the worksheet.

How an emulsifier works

Answer these questions Hydrophilic means? Hydrophobic means? Explain how an emulsifier holds an emulsion together using the above terms

How well have you worked today? Turn to the back of your books and write down one thing you have done well in this lesson and one thing you could do better. Examples I worked well with my partner I need to ask my teacher to explain further. I solved a problem I answered a question in class I really understand this work. I used a key word correctly in a sentence
