Day 2 Studio E.Lyon

Find your art First, put your name on the back of two pieces of cardboard Gesso each of the pieces of cardboard Set them some where in class to dry If you are done, help others, clean up Find your string drawing from last class

String Drawings What challenges did you have drawing the string? Why do you think those were challenges for you? Share with your group and then be ready to share with the class Based on the challenges we will have some mini-lessons/techniques and then try to draw the string again

Try Again Try to draw the string again: Expectations No erasers Go off the page or to the edge At least 5 tones of grey

Compare Compare your first string drawing to your last string drawing What changed between the two drawings(this is stuff you can see)? How did you feel doing the drawing the second time? What helped the most with the mini-technique lessons in class today?

Next Class 8.25.2016 Next class we will draw our hand on one of the gesso boards, but don’t worry we are going to learn a way to cheat with drawing our hand

Project #1 Drawing your hand

Step #1 How to cheat in art Everyone needs: Clear paper vis-à-vis Marker Trace your hand(keep the paper and your hand in the same position) Then track the clear paper onto white paper, using the window as your light table(you might want to tape the paper together)

Step #2 Cut out your hand shape Trace the shape of your hand multiple times to create patterns and shapes in your background on the white gessoed piece of cardboard Glue your hand to the board

Add depth Shade the hand using the charcoal pencil Cut out shapes or lines in the background to create texture

Project #2 Take out the piece of cardboard you made with just the paper towel on it Not the one with the mountain, but the other one

Discover Find something in all the wrinkles and folds of the paper towel and draw something there Turn the folds into something You can use a pen, pencil, charcoal(no color yet)
