Presentation transcript:

Feedback Session Our aim: To collect evidence on what effective feedback is, what it looks like across the school and how we can get students working with feedback to make maximum progress in all subjects, while also transferring their skills in responding to feedback across subjects Furthermore, how we can get students to recognise that they can transfer skills from one subject to another; especially in terms of feedback Today we will: Assess what we understand feedback to be gather information from each other about the way we use feedback in our subject areas Discuss whether these feedback areas cross over Generate ideas about how we will gather evidence of feedback Establish how we can evaluate what works/doesn’t work in our subjects

What is feedback?

Why is it important?

What does good feedback look like?

What are the different formats that feedback comes in?

How do you get students to work with feedback?

Which type of feedback do you think is most effective?

Which type of feedback do you think students find most useful?

Is there feedback that you give to tick boxes as opposed to help students make progress?

Who is feedback for?

How do students respond to feedback in your subject and is it all/most/some of the time?

What do you want to gain from these CPD sessions?

How can we build evidence that feedback is having an impact?

Agree – Disagree statements Feedback is always good Feedback is better when a teacher has taken time to write it Feedback can be worked on at any time Feedback should always be written down Any feedback is better than no feedback Feedback needs to be specific Feedback might be immediate and if it is it is probably more likely to be worked on Verbal feedback has little impact Verbal feedback can’t be evidenced so therefore has no purpose Verbal feedback (when acted on) is incredibly useful Feedback is useless if students do nothing with it Student response needs to be factored into lessons Student response is perhaps the most important part of feedback Purple pen of progress is a waste of time Purple pen of progress is a great idea Purple pen of progress when students understand how to respond is a valuable tool
