Tech Select 2013-2014 Who am I Why did I do this What were my goals What did I learn Looking ahead Who – Mitch Rasmussen, (MT-ASCP), Lecturer in School of Health Care Professions Clinical Laboratory Science Program Grad of UWSP in 1991 – Almost 20 years clinical lab experience 5 years teaching at UWSP Why – Deathly afraid of new technology Found out real quick that if I was going to be an effective instructor, I needed to learn more Gotten help and advise from Kristi before – also did teaching partners What were my goals – learn how to use the technology for ideas in changing my classes Not be afraid to try new things and find new ways to be creative through use of technology What did I learn – I'm not an expert of lots of what we did, but I am aware of new things Things I did try Wordle, Prezi, WeMovie, iMovie, Various iPad apps, Uploading videos into Utube, Remind 101, URL shortener Looking ahead – become more refined in using these in class, expanding on my knowledge of them to get more comfortable, seek new ones Camtasia and screencasting to flip class Integrate clickers more into class for review Integrate Quizlet in to class

Targeted Classes CLS 405 – Outcome HS 105 – Outreach

CLS 405 - Outcome Problem Solution Difficult to acquaint students to analyzers and have them be able to operate and maintain properly Solution Create instructional videos that could be posted and students could access while at the instrument

UWSP CLS 405 – U Tube Videos http://goo.gl/PRlhyC http://goo.gl/sChB2w http://goo.gl/DCxOWG http://goo.gl/aH0LMR http://goo.gl/H1p0WO

D2L Link https://uwsp.courses.wisconsin.edu/d2l/le/content/2736844/Home It is my hope that these videos and links will be of benefit to the students as they learn the intricacy of automated laboratory equipment and also benefit my self alleviating time running back and forth from office to lab to help with simple procedural things now covered in these videos Many vendors are eliminating print materials and using video instructional materials similar to these for operation, maintenance and troubleshooting procedures

HS 105 - Outreach Outreach component Began with WeMovie – ran into a problem Students made a Prezi and looped presentation Developed a brochure Service DUC presentation on Influenza Presented to UWSP campus community Collaborated with Health Services throughout project Huge success – 61 vaccinations given !

What Students Learned Learned how to work collaboratively with themselves and others ( Health Services ) They volunteered and worked many hours outside of class Used CCIT to learn WeMovie Learned how to use Prezi effectively Learned what makes good brochure, poster board Learned how to dress professionally and interact with public Learned how to self critique

Plans to Continue Begin this project sooner Advance notice using Message of Day Spread awareness in dorms across campus Incorporate more technology Make more professional looking poster board

Thanks Kristi and all associated with CCIT CPS for making this possible All others that were part of this group All my students that helped bring life to the projects
