Goals of the Session discuss how to align standards within the e-portfolio assessment learn how to create a google site identify troubleshooting strategies when using google sites brainstorm strategies to implement google sites and other gapps in your classes

E-Portfolio Basics structured around the competencies that our district sets for our department, which are the national health standards students save and upload completed assignments that demonstrate their growth and understanding of respective competencies/standards students reflect on how they met the competency by completing the assignment

Getting Kids Started Provide a handout with requirements and how to get started Give class time to teach how to create the site and give students a few tasks to complete Portfolio set up Personal bio & picture Portfolio Instructions will allow tech savvy kids to work ahead. Creating a Portfolio (google site) Go to www.google.com Log in or create an account Go to the tab labeled, "Sites"

Feature of Google: Sharing The share feature allows students to share their portfolios with their teacher(s) for easy electronic grading/feedback.

Feature of Google: Drive Students can upload their assignments (files, videos, images) and store for free online Students can share group projects to put in their portfolio Students can collaborate or ask for feedback by sharing things with peers or a teacher Google Drive app allows kids to take pictures of assignments and upload them immediately.

Troubleshooting Tips Talk to your tech department in advance Some schools use gapps and have a username for each kid or can set this up with google. Give visual instructions on an overhead and have a sample product to show students Have students save their files, pictures and images in their google drive. Create a screencast using www.screenr.com to teach basic concepts and place on your website

Optional Activities Peer Assessment Peers share the portfolio with another classmate and evaluate their work. Fill out a feedback form to give to their peers. Artifact Identification & Reflection Practice Students practice matching artifacts to standards/competencies as well as writing reflections with a small group.
