What To Do With Your Feelings What role should emotions play in the life of a Christian? Jesus had feelings and expressed them! Emotions can be valuable to Christians, but we must CHECK them to be sure that they are based on right thinking, CHANGE them if necessary by altering our thinking, and then CHERISH and use them to motivate us to do right.

What To Do With Your Feelings Jesus felt and expressed emotion Anger (Mark 3:1-6) Indignation (John 2:14-17) Grief, sorrow & love (John 11:32-38)

What To Do With Your Feelings Check them! “Why do I have these feelings?” (Genesis 4:1-8; Psalm 42; Eccl. 5:13-17) “Where will they lead me?” (James 1:20; 2 Corinthians 7:10) Change them if necessary! By changing your thinking! (Genesis 4:7; Jonah 4)

What To Do With Your Feelings Cherish them & use them to motivate! “Godly sorrow” moves us to produce fruits worthy of repentance (Acts 2:22-38; 2 Corinthians 7:11) Fear motivates evangelism, service, and holiness (2 Cor. 5:11; 7:1; Hebrews 12:28) Love moves us to care for others, obey Christ, and live for Him (1 John 3:16-18; John 14:15; 2 John 6; 2 Cor. 5:14-15)
