CAII 4.01 Web Page Design Terms List 2

Write the term and the definition. Keep in your notebook. Anchor - Provides Access to various data such as other web pages Animated GIF – a variant of the GIF image format, often used on the WWW to provide moving banners and icons. ASCII – a universal code used to represent characters in the computer. (American Standard Code of Information Interchange)

(continued) Body – the bulk of the document in a webpage that may include headings, text, lists, links, graphics and multimedia. Browser – a special software program required to navigate the WWW that allows you to access information the Internet. Debugging – the process of identifying and fixing a code’s bugs or errors.

(continued) Definition list – displays a term or short group of words with an indented explanation underneath. Empty tag – an HTML code that doesn’t require a closing tag. Format – the procedure of defining how information appears on a page. May include bold, underlining, italics, arranging text on a page, etc.

(continued) GIF – a graphics file format originated by CompuServe, usable for web pages and some multimedia software. Graphic Interchange Format. Graphic – line, circle, box that has been created or an image which is imported into a publication.

(continued) Head – this tag identifies the first part of your HTML-coded document that contains the title. The title is shown as part of your browser’s window. Hierarchical web site – displays web pages in a tree-like structure. The home page would have an index or table of contents.

(Continued) Home page – the main or primary page for a web site which includes all links to other pages in the web site. Horizontal rule – a term for a line in the page design. HTML editor – a software program that allows you to edit HTML code.
