2016: January and February Results and News Welcome to our newest HSLC member: Maureen’s Hope Executive Director: Susan Bertrand

2016: January and February Results and News Our Sincere THANKS to all the agencies who renewed their membership in 2016! We look forward to serving you with continuously improving services and programs! Stay tuned for a report at the May 13, 2016 members’ meeting on the results of our Member Satisfaction Survey and an update on our 2017-2020 Strategic Plan

2016: January and February Results and News TRAINING – New Workshop – Time Management: The HSLC’s HR Affinity Group has developed parameters for a new HSLC training offering - “Time Management” workshop. The co-chairs of the HR Affinity Group and the HSLC executive director are currently finalizing plans with a vendor. The HSLC plans to offer this course on a pilot basis in the late spring of 2016 and may offer it multiple times in the future. It will be open to employees at all levels in our member agencies. Our goal is to provide practical training in a single, half-day session at a reasonable cost. You will receive specific information by no later than April 1.

2016: January and February Results and News TRAINING –Excellent Supervisor Program: We have 22 people from various agencies signed up for our Spring, 2016 offering of the “Excellent Supervisor” training at LeMoyne. The first of the three sessions begins April 1 and the program ends with the final session on May 13. Many thanks to all members who enrolled their employees in this program.

2016: January and February Results and News ADVOCACY – March 14 “Lunch and Learn”: The Advocacy Committee, as promised, has developed a document with information about advocacy and lobbying, to provide HSLC member agencies with general parameters for their respective activities in those areas. A “walk-through” of this document will be offered at a “brown bag lunch and learn” at the North Side Learning Center at noon on March 14. Sarah Walton, co-chair of the Advocacy Committee will highlight key elements of the document and facilitate dialog among attendees at the meeting. All are welcome.

2016: January and February Results and News STRATEGIC PLANNING : The HSLC Steering Committee engaged in a planning offsite meeting, facilitated by Peggy Ogden on January 14. Plan development is in-progress. Kathy Harter, Strategic Planning Committee Chair will provide an update at the May 13, 2016 members’ meeting. Teams have been created to address focus areas, including: - Membership Growth and Retention (including programming) - Networking - Advocacy and Affinity Groups - Marketing

2016: January and February Results and News MEMBER BENEFITS AND SERVICES: NYCON membership – Loretta has provided NYCON with an updated list of 2016 member e-mails (generally that of the executive director, or their designate). If you are not receiving the NYCON e-mails (generally sent by NYCON every other week), please contact Loretta and she will investigate with NYCON and remedy the situation. HSLC Website – If you need your staff to access the site to post information, please contact Loretta and she will arrange this. If you are having trouble accessing the site or posting information, please alert Loretta and she will investigate/fix the problem.

2016: January and February Results and News EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: Loretta continues to serve on planning committee of Nourishing Tomorrow’s Leaders – “NTL” - (diversity board development collaborative initiative of Gifford Foundation, CNY Community Foundation and Leadership Greater Syracuse). NTL will be offered again in spring of 2016. There has been an overwhelming response (number of applications) this year from the community. HSLC was invited by Gifford Foundation to participate in design of a “ nonprofit training needs assessment” survey which was sent through SU’s Community Link. Other participants included CNY Arts and CNY Community Foundation.
