Powerfuel UK Static suppression in plastic/fiberglass pipe systems Dirk Smith – Ionix Gas Technologies

Outline Review Ionix technology for static suppression in plastic pipe systems Explain the static problem occurs in plastic pipe Review NICOR Labs independent verification of Ionix cartridge effectiveness Review overall system installation Review cartridge housing fabrication and placement Review cartridge use and maintenance

Ionix technology for static suppression in plastic pipe systems Our technology (cartridge and additive) has been deployed for over 4 years Specifically designed to eliminate interior static in any gas in plastic pipe Direction of flow (pressured in or out) is not a factor Distance is not a factor Ionix will dissipate interior static generated within any material

Explanation of the static problem which occurs in plastic pipe Static caused by friction inside pipe If proper levels of static, electical ground, oxygen and methane present, ignition can occur even inside pipe (i.e. Georgia interior pipe fire) Ionix effect eliminates displacement of electrons by reducing electrical resistance of gas stream and conducting stray electrons back to deficient molecules Ionix eliminates interior (and hence exterior) static

NICOR Labs independent verification of Ionix effectiveness NICOR Labs, consulting lab for NICOR, one of Americas largest natural gas distributors (similar to NatGrid in UK), conducted in ground test of Ionix cartridge Measured static inside plastic pipe at ends of distribution system before Ionix cartridge installed and after installation and then after removed from system

Overall system installation Ionix cartridge is housed in rigid holder which you can fab in house Ionix cartridge is sized based upon flow volume (one size doesnt fit all) Ionix cartridge installed upstream of plastic Metal or other materials do not affect Ionix effectiveness ALL air/gas must pass through Ionix

Cartridge fabrication and placement Cartridge housing purpose is to allow gas to flow around filter (to create Ionix effect) and allow maintenance replacement of filter. Fab to your pressure specs Housing does not need to be vertical. Only needs clearance at top for replacing cartridge and bypass valving Water (visible) WILL damage unit. Water trap must be before housing

Cartridge use and maintenance Ionix works automatically when air/gas passes through it Replace cartridge once a year Cartridges are ruined if water enters them If cartridge is disposed, it contains no hazardous waste and can be recycled with plastics and metal

Personal hazards of Ionix cartridge Ionix contains no harmful or hazardous materials Spent cartridges can be recycled with plastics and metals US Material Data Safety Sheet sheet provided Generally, the only reaction to Ionix is possible slight skin irritation (allergic reaction)

Conclusions Ionix is effective eliminating static downstream inside ANY pipe material Ionix effectiveness does not diminish over distance as long as ALL air/gas go through an Ionix cartridge Ionix effect is downstream of placement in system Ionix effect is not diminished by any material
