PORTRAIT OF MY MUSE

What is a muse? In mythology, the Muses were nine goddesses who symbolized the arts and sciences. Today, a muse is a person who serves as an artist's inspiration.

Challenge Create a portrait of your muse by cutting your photo/magazine in half and drawing the other half in pencil. Try to match the contour-line and Values in the drawing. Contour-Line= A line that defines the outside edge of an object.

What is Value? An element of art, value refers to the lightness or darkness of a color. Value becomes critical in a work which has no colors other than black, white, and a gray scale.

Steps to Creating Your Muse 1.) Cut off the border (white paper around your photo) 2.) Center the Image on your Paper and trace around the outside. 3.) Cut your image down the center 4.) Glue Half of your Image Centered on the Drawing paper 5.) Begin Measuring the Face with your pencil or ruler and make dots to connect the outside line of the face.
