Our Plans Today 7:30 – 7:50 – Robert’s Entry Summary 7:50 – 7:57 – A-Team Mentor Meeting 8:00 – 9:30 – WASC Focus Groups 9:30 – End – Prepare for Monday

Entry Plan Summary The Purpose of the plan was to: -Introduce myself to the MHS community -Meet people -Study our school -Understand our strengths -Understand where we should focus improvement efforts

Who I Met Elizabeth Novack Fred Navarro Tim Holcomb Denise Selbe Russell Lee Sung Kelly Wilson Ken Fox Ray Chips Dave Steinle Paul Sevillano Jason Alleman Kirsten Levitin Mike Matsuda Susan Stocks Jeri Chinarian Cheryl Quadrelli-Jones And, most importantly, all of you

Where I’ve Been - Site Council Meetings - Puente Family Night - PTA Meetings - School Play - Concerts - School Board Meetings - Sports, Sports, Sports! - Cypress and Fullerton College Breakfasts - Most importantly, hundreds of classes

Our Strengths - Great Staff! - Students are happy - Puente - Music programs - Activities program - Athletic program - JROTC - AVID Magnolia is a comfortable school for our students, and they love being here.

Some of Our Challenges - Too many kids failing - The “plague of low expectations” - Too many struggling English Learners - Poor parent involvement - Campus and landscape - Discipline and follow-through - Few alternatives for unsuccessful students

How Things Get Done Here We have been left to find our direction - Our parents have not engaged – yet - Our district has not mandated common assessments across all core subjects – yet - Motivated people have had the chance to build programs (A-Team, Puente, AVID)

We should continue to.. Support our incredible staff - Support our Puente and AVID programs and consider growing them - Promote and grow our arts courses - Refine our career and technical education pathways - Grow participation in activities and athletics - Maintain open, honest communication

Some Directions - Complete an honest WASC Self-Study and develop our own plans for achieving dramatic improvement in academic achievement - Create consistent, school-wide interventions - Enact a comprehensive program for our English learners - Make our school more family friendly

A Personal Note - Thank you for welcoming me!
