Presentation transcript:

You need a sheet of paper and something to write with!!! Today’s Assignment Propaganda: ideas spread to influence public opinion for or against a cause You need a sheet of paper and something to write with!!! I want you to list 5 examples of propaganda that you have seen so far today.

What do you see!!!! Number your paper 1-12 As I go through the following slides, you write down the emotion you feel from each example of propaganda. Everyone must participate because I may call on you for your opinion!!!

Nationalism Nationalism ideology based on the premise that the individual's loyalty and devotion to the nation surpass other individual or group interests.

What is a Bond??? TECHNICALLY SPEAKING, a bond is a loan and you are the lender. Who's the borrower? Usually, it's either the U.S. government, a state, a local municipality or a big company like General Motors. All of these entities need money to operate -- to fund the federal deficit, for instance, or to build roads and finance factories -- so they borrow capital from the public by issuing bonds.

What is a War Bond??? At first they were called Defense Bonds and they were U.S. Government issued bonds to finance the war effort, but the name was changed to War Bonds after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The bonds were set to yield 2.9% after a ten year maturity.

JOSEPH GOEBBELS Dr. Joseph Goebbels was Hitler’s Propaganda Minister. He was a prominent figure of the regime, known for his great rhetorical skills. He played a large role in helping the Nazis achieve and retain power by creating propaganda to present the Nazi ideology to the German people in a favorable light.

Today’s Assignment You will be responsible for designing a poster to illustrate their pro or con position on war. The poster should illustrate your position on war. Determine whether we should go to war, or whether we should stay out of war. You must use your poster to influence your other classmates to “buy-into” your views about war. (Propaganda) Along with each poster you need to design a war or anti-war message that goes along with your picture. YOU MAY WORK WITH ONE OTHER PERSON

Grading RUBRIC Here is how you will be scored on this activity: 70 Points- Neatness and Creativity of Poster 30 Points- Relationship of Slogan to the Poster
