Columbian Exchange The Columbian Exchange, named for Christopher Columbus, was the widespread transfer of plants, animals, culture, human populations, technology, and ideas between the Americas, West Africa, and the Old World (eastern hemisphere) in the 15th and 16th centuries.

The Colonization of South America Treaty of Tordesillas, (June 7, 1494), agreement between Spain and Portugal aimed at settling conflicts over the land.  This contributed to the culture of South America.
