The Dogma Defined by Pope Pius XII November 1, 1950 “Mary, the immaculate perpetually Virgin Mother of God, after the completion of he earthly life, was assumed body and soul into the glory of heaven”- Apostolic Constitution Munificentissimus Deus. Dees not say Mary died but it is the overwhelming view

Differences Between… Ascension Assumption Jesus was raised by his own power He did not need power from the Father to be raised Mary was assumed into Heaven She does not possess power to raise herself into Heaven Assume- drawn up

1 Corinthians 15:20-24 “Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end….” By this, St. Paul teaches the glorification of the body doesn’t happen until the end of time.

To Clarify St. Paul said “our bodies can’t enter heaven in their current state. Elijah and Enoch assumed into heaven without dying. When gates of heaven many Old Testament Saints resurrected. Church Fathers taught that the saints’ bodies joined their souls in heaven.

Typology Mary Arc of the Covenant God kept her free from all defect, corruption, and profanation Carried his living word Jews made extra sure to keep the arc free from all defect, corruption, and profanation Carried His written word So… If God intervened in an extraordinary way to keep His mother physically intact at Jesus’ birth, it follows that He would preserve her from bodily corruption at her life’s end.

No Remains? No one in church history has ever claimed to have relics, a body, or any remains of Mary’s body. There have, however, been multiple cities that have claimed to be the death place of her.
