MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE 16 DAYS CAMPAIGN In all the stories monitored news associated to 16 days campaign made up only 14% Stories relating to women, child abuse and other gender based violence accounted for only 29% HIV/AIDS only made most headlines on the 1st December, I guess since it was World Aids Day

SOURCING IN GBV STORIES DURING THE 16 DAYS CAMPAIGN There were more male sources (63%) than female sources (37%) in all items monitored No female sources mentioned in stories relating to child and women abuse

SOURCING IN GBV STORIES DURING THE 16 DAYS CAMPAIGN Most sources were government officials and politicians Sources from activists and other groups against children and women abuse accounted for 21% only

GENDER STEREOTYPES Gender blind – 43% Blatant Stereotype – 25% Subtle Stereotype – 5% Gender aware – 27%

JOURNALISTS MALE : 59% FEMALE 41%
