Density Density describes how heavy an object is compared to its size.
Metric System for Recording Measurments. Why do we use a standard system? So that measurements can be consistent among people from all over the world.
 The Metric System  Objectives:  1. Explain why scientists use a standard measurement system.  2. Identify SI units of measure for length, mass, volume,
Volume, Mass, and Density Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Mass is a measure of how much matter is in an object. Mass can be expressed.
Density. Different substances have different densities. The density of a material does not depend on the size or amount of the substance you have. Density.

Scientific Measurements

Scientific Measurements • Scientists compare and analyze each other’s measurements • Use the International System of Units, or SI Distance • SI unit = meter (m) • Other measures are millimeters (mm), centimeters (cm), & kilometers(km)

Volume • The amount of space occupied by an object • Regular solids (cube, block) SI unit = cm3 • Liquid Volumes SI unit = milliliters (mL) Use graduated cyclinder • Conversion between solid volume and liquid volume 1 cm3 = 1 mL

Mass • Amount of matter in an object • SI unit = gram (g) • Mass is measured using Balances Density • Amount of matter that occupies a given space • SI unit = g/cm3 or g/mL Temperature • SI unit = °C (Celsius)
