The landscape In 2011, the target of 15 million people on treatment by 2015 was set and through pressure on government and donors we were able to ensure that 15 million people were reached with services and treatment. The globally-agreed to goals of 90% of people living with HIV know their status, 90% of people tested are started on treatment and 90% of those on treatment reach & maintain viral suppression by the year 2020.  With this knowledge Activists have played a big part in shaping the target and achievements of the targets set by governments and the UNAIDS by ensuring that both government and donors adopt, fund and implement targets to ensure we achieve them In the 2016, political declaration we have a new target of 30 million by 2020 which is bold, ambitious and achievable if politicians take action to deliver on the right to health for people living with HIV. In the 2016 UNAIDS HIV declaration there is the welcome additional commitment to expand community- led service delivery to cover at least 30% of all service delivery by 2030.

Conclusion Ensure that treatment is both reaching people where they live and countries report on targets We need to lay the same emphasis to achieving targets that we have set for human resource and various populations Where declarations fail to set adequate targets to reach populations that are in much more need of services such as key populations in the 2016 declaration that did not have strong commitments to address the needs of key population, We need to advocate and achieve targets for funding for the epidemic that ensures that mechanisms put in place to fund the end of the epidemic.   Today, more than 15 million people have access to treatment because of the life saving power of bold, smart activism but we must not forget the fact that more than half of the people living with HIV still do not have access to treatment.    If the world fails to achieve these targets, we risk undoing the achievement made in reduction in HIV prevalence and death due to AIDS.
