The asterisk (*) indicates the impact factor for 2002 without either the infrequently cited supplements or the Association of Professors of Medicine’s green pages; the dagger (†) indicates without supplements. Neither supplements nor green pages had been included in the calculations prior to 2002. Using the same methodology as in prior years, the impact factor of the Journal would have increased to 6.35 despite an increase in the number of articles, with some of this increase being in articles that had been published less than 2 years earlier and therefore not eligible for the 2 years of citations on which the impact factor is based.
