VOCABULARY UNIT 7

Newton: SI unit of measurement for measuring force.

Potential Energy: The stored energy of an object relatively due to its position

Acceleration: Measure of the change in position and or direction during a period of time.

Gravitational Potential Energy: Energy an object possesses related to it mass and height from the ground

Joules: Unit of measurement for energy.

Balanced Force: Two equal forces acting opposite directions on an object, there is no movement.

Unbalanced Force: Two forces acting on an object that are not equal in size, causing a change in position.

Elastic Potential Energy: Energy stored from an elastic object being stretched or compressed, when force is removed, object snaps back to its original shape.

Energy: The ability to do work or to cause change.

Chemical Potential Energy: Energy that’s stored in substances that are ready to undergo chemical reactions.

Thermal Energy: Energy that is generated and measured by heat.

Kinetic Energy: Energy of movement or motion

Law of Conservation of Energy: States that energy CANNOT be destroyed nor created; it only transforms.

Mechanical Energy:
