Friday, February 23, 2018 You need your literature books for class today. Take out a sheet of notebook paper. Put your name on it. Title it “Scenes 4 and 5 analysis questions” Important dates: Monday – Anne Frank Act One assessment Tuesday, March 6 – CFA #8 (literary text) Friday, March 9 – Anne Frank Act Two assessment

Analysis Questions: Scenes 4 and 5 Reread lines 1442-1447. What is Mr. Van Daan doing? What does this act show us about his character? How have the relationships changed in the annex from scene 3 to scene 4? Why does Mr. Frank think that the sound of more air raids is a good sign? How did the gifts that Anne gave for Hannukah affect the members of the annex? Describe the reactions of the following characters after they hear that there has been a robbery downstairs: Mr. Frank, Mrs. Van Daan, Mr. Van Daan, Peter, Margot Describe each character in the annex with an adjective. Explain why you chose the adjective you did. Mr. Frank, Mrs. Frank, Mr. Van Daan, Mrs. Van Daan, Mr. Dussel, Peter, Margot, Anne. “Good triumphs over evil” is a common theme in literature. A similar message is a major theme in this play: people are basically good at heart. Which characters help develop this theme? Which characters contradict that theme. Explain your answer for each referring back to the text to support your answer. What is one question that has been brought to your mind in scenes 4 and 5?
