4-1 Slope Intercept Form Goal: Graph a linear equation in slope intercept form Eligible Content: A1.1.2.1.1 / A1.1.2.1.3 / A1.2.1.1.1 / A1.2.1.2.1 A1.2.1.2.2 / A1.2.2.1.3 / A1.2.2.1.4

Think back to graphing using a table y = 2x – 4 x y 4 1 -2 2 3 Do you see a pattern???

Vocabulary Slope Intercept Form – an equation that is in the format y = mx + b. y is alone!!! m stands for slope b stands for y intercept

Identify slope and y intercept y = 2x + 3 y = - 4x – 7 y = 8 + 9x y = ½ x – 12 y = x + 3 y = 4x 2x + y = 10 8x + 2y = 20

y = 3x – 4 m = 3 b = - 4

Graphing using slope and y-intercept Make sure y is alone Identify slope (m) and y-intercept (b) Plot the y-intercept (b) on the graph Turn the slope (m) into a fraction and use it to rise and run to many more points Draw a line through the points!

Examples y = 2x + 1 y = -4x + 8 y = x + 4 y = x – 1 y = 3
