Factors Influencing Success of Expatriate Managers A person who does not adapt well to change is more likely to have difficulty adjusting to work and living in another culture. Persons desiring an expatriate position will be more happy that others who take the position only for reasons of career advancement. Expatriates with an understanding of the host country’s national culture will know what they are getting into. Persons with the knowledge and skills required for successful job performance will have less stress on the job. Interactions with people on and off the job are likely to be significant factors in whether an expatriate position is successful. 35.2 O.H. 35.2

Still More Factors Affecting Success of Expatriate Managers Managers with previous experience in another country are likely to know what they are getting into. The interest that family members have in relocating and their general support of this decision are very significant concerns. One’s motivation to accept an international assignment is important. Expectations about a global assignment must be reasonable The ability to listen to and attempt to understand the beliefs of others is very important. 35.3 O.H. 35.3
