Chapter 2: Section 2 Visible light and Color
The Colour of Light & The Colour of Objects. Colour by Addition Sir Isaac Newton first discovered that visible (white) light was made up of many colours.
Light. A Dozen Facts About Light Light Fact 1: Light is a form of energy (energy is the ability to make things change),
Light Absorption. When light travels, we know that it can bounce (reflect) or bend (refract) off of objects, but do you think it can do anything else?

All About Light. Why does the straw look bigger in the water? Because water magnifies the size of an image. Because light travels slower through the water.

Color  You see an object as the wavelength  ( color) of visible light that it reflects  Sunflowers are yellow because it reflects (bounces off) mostly.

How Do We See Color? Activity

Instructions: Make sure you printed the “how do we see color” word document before you continue. You will need colored pencils, crayons or colored markers to help you complete the activity. Click through the power point. As you move through the ppt, fill in the missing parts to the drawing (use same colors). Also write down the information under “explanation” as it appears in the ppt. Put in your Human Body 2 binder.

How Do We See Color? Explanation: 1. White light is made up of all the colors of visible light in the spectrum. 2. All the colors of light travel out from the light bulb and hit the apple.

How Do We See Color? Explanation: 3. When the colors of light hit the apple, the purple, blue, green, yellow & orange light are absorbed by the apple. 4. The red light hits the apple and is reflected off the apple and into our eyes.

How Do We See Color? Explanation: 5. Our eyes are light detectors; so when they detect the red light being reflected off the apple, we see the apple as red. * Our eyes have special cells called cone cells which allow us to see the color red.

How Do We See Color? Explanation: 6. The apple has pigments that absorb all colors of light except red, so red is reflected off the apple.
