Presentation transcript:

Getting Ready for Speech Note Cards Take out your written speech and/or your PowerPoint or Speech Outline Read through it several times and add in information that you think needs to be added Remember to think about events that have happened since Winter Break started Work on final draft of research paper Finalizing a product Uploading a PowerPoint Meeting with your advisor

Preparing Your Speech Note Cards Collect 15 index cards Try to have them different colors Put a number on EACH card so that if they drop, they are in the correct order As the hole punchers are passed around, place a hole in the upper left of each card so that they can be tied together. Make sure NOT to write in this area! Only write in PEN or fine point Sharpie; pencil will wear off during practice.

Hints for Your Speech Note Cards Add pictures as reminders Examples: To remind you to Smile: To remind you to Make Eye Contact: To remind you to Switch PowerPoint: Don’t write it out because you might accidentally SAY IT! 

Requirements for Speech Note Cards Must have 2-3 points per card in your speech Cannot be in complete sentences Has to be worked on in class and at home. This cannot be done well if you simply blow it off. If you finish, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

Total You should have between 20-25 cards (maybe less…..maybe more) Depends on your topics and how in-depth you get with it. You need to film yourself doing your speech at least 3 times. Each time, use the check list to see what you did correctly and what you can work on to get a better grade.

Non-verbal Move! Don’t do the “pee-pee dance” Don’t guard Begin in center Point 1: move to the right 4 steps Point 2: move over to the left of the center 4 steps Point 3: Center Conclusion: Center Look up and use your hands!!!!
