Bell Ringer 5 minutes The poet, Homer, whom was blind according to some historians is usually given credit for writing The Iliad and The Odyssey.

Vocab Spotlight 10 Minutes Sample Sentences: I am usually diligent about completing homework, but lately I have suffered from apathy and have not been doing good work. Suzy has complete disdain for anyone who isn’t concerned about world hunger; she finds them self-absorbed and dislikable. Music Connection 15 minutes The student will: Listen to Fake Empire by The National. What images are brought to mind by the lyrics? Note your thoughts in the right-side column. What Dystopian characteristics do you see in this song. Identify and briefly explain them at the bottom of your sheet.

Mildred & Montag: A Love Story? 30 mins. Take out your Mildred Prove-It and Close Reading worksheets. On the back of the Close Reading sheet, write a brief description of Mildred’s and Montag’s relationship. Use textual evidence to support your analysis. Participate in the class discussion.

SAF Response 20 mins. Use SAF, Strong Answer Format (claim, data, warrant, conclusion), to respond to the following prompt. Your answer should be between 4-6 sentences in length. How are Mildred and Montag living in a fake empire?
