Comparing the acidity content of different brand of carbonated drinks TOPIC Comparing the acidity content of different brand of carbonated drinks

Investigation Value; Find out which is the best for us to drink. Less acidity content can keep our teeth/body can make us less unhealthy and educates people who drinks carbonated drinks too much.

Scientific Knowledge; Too much acid can cause diseases like heart failure, liver diseases and others. The acid in carbonated drinks makes our bones weaker and more prone to breakage Acid can weaken the enamel of our teeth, increasing the risk of tooth decay

Apparatus and Materials Universal PH indicator solution Dropper - 5x Carbonated drinks (coke, sprite, fanta,+c,cream soda) Watched glasses - 5x

Procedures Fill the 5 watch glasses with 3 drops of universal PH indicator solution. Then put 3 drops of one of the carbonated drink in one of the watch glass that contains the solution. Observe the color change of the universal PH indicators. Repeat for the other carbonated drinks.

Different apparatus

RECORD (TABLE) Carbonated drinks Coke Sprite Fanta +C Cream soda Colour of the drinks Brown Colourless Orange Yellow Colour change Dark orange Light orange Carbonated drinks Coke Sprite Fanta +C Cream soda Acidity regulator 338 331 330

Experimental Errors Analysis Temperature of drinks Amount of drops Same result Similarity of acidity regulator

Improvement for Errors Use a measuring dropper for more accurate amount of drops. Have a back up plan. Keep them in the same environment to have the same temperature.

Research “Acid in carbonated drinks makes our bone weaker and more prone to breakage” “Acid can weaken the enamel of our teeth, increasing the risk of tooth decay” = Acid in carbonated drinks adds flavor, it interferes with the absorption of calcium, resulting in the loss of calcium from bone.

Conclusion The result of the experiment shows that coke has higher acidity than sprite, fanta, +c, and cream soda. The results doesn’t show any accurate result, it just shows that different brands of carbonated drink is bad for our health if we consume more. The more we consume the more it will lead to an unhealthy diet.
