Defensive Philosophy Keep it simple Know your position (alignment, technique, and responsibility) Know the weakness of the defense. Know your opponent Stunt as little as possible Get to the ball and make the play 3

PREPARATION Scouting – Jim Smith (4 to 5 films on each opponent) We expect our players to study film. Jim or I will break down the films (by hand) I compile the Tendencies by formation. Draw up plays. The staff meets to discuss defense. In practice we rep & reinforce, rep & reinforce the opponent offense.

TEAM TACKLING Proper technique 2 days / week Four Stations – four coaches 1. Sideline Tackling 2. Open field tackling 3. Tackling Dummy 4. Agile hole tackling 1/2 minute / station – Total 6 to 8 minutes Substitute pursuit drills on days not tackling
