The Lyrics: Your Task: 10 minutes: Play the song. When it goes off, share responses (approximately 3 students)

Learning Target: Task 1: Read Chapter 9 (12 minutes) Task 2: I can closely read a text to examine the point of view of the characters. Task 1: Read Chapter 9 (12 minutes) Task 2: Answer the question assigned to you (taped to your desk) Task 3: Discuss your answers with your group in a positive group collaboration 30 minutes: Tape the question strips to the desks BEFORE class. Play the audio for the chapter: bit.do/listen08 (12 minutes) Facilitate answering the questions (same as question sheet from Monday!) and collaboration. (6 minutes) Move on.

Part 1 Part 2 Learning Target: I can closely read a text to examine the point of view of the characters. Part I: Write a letter as if you are Janie. What has Janie realized about Nanny’s teachings and life lessons? What would she want to say to Nanny? Write a brief letter to Nanny from Janie’s point of view. Part II: If Nanny were able to respond to Janie, what would be her response? Write a response to Janie from Nanny’s perspective. Part 1 Distribute the handout. Discuss the directions. Lead a brief discussion. 5 minutes Monitor the students as they work. 15 minutes Collect on the way out the door. Part 2
