Mean – statement problems

The average or arithmetic mean or mean is defined as follows. ∴ Sum of all observation = Mean x Total number of observation

Example1: Find the mean of first 5 even numbers Solution The first 5 even numbers are 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 Sum of 5 even numbers = 2 + 4 + 6 + 8 + 10 = 30 Ans: Mean of first 5 even numbers is 6

Example2: The weight and mean of some people is 656 kg and 82 kg. What is the total number of people. Solution Given : Mean = 82 , Total weight= 656 To Find: Total number of people Ans:- Total number of people is 8

Example3: The mean price of 5 pens is Rs 75 Example3: The mean price of 5 pens is Rs 75.What is the total cost of 5 pens Solution Given : Mean = 75 , Total number of pens = 5 To Find: Total cost of 5 pens We know that Sum of all observation = Mean x Total number of observation Total cost of pens = Mean x Total pens = 75 x 5 = 375 Ans:- Total cost of 5 pens is Rs 375

Try these The mean weight of 10 boys in a cricket team is 65.5 kg. What is the total weight of 10 boys.
