The Shakespearean Era
-Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford and died at age 52. -He was not born into a family that was wealthy. - Throughout Shakespeare’s childhood, his father struggled with serious financial debt. -In 1582 he got married to Anne Hathaway. -He was 18 and Anne was 26, and it turned out that she was pregnant. In total they had 3 children but one of their twins named Hamlet died at age 11
In 1595 he become famous, but nobody accepted his work because he didn’t go to any college or university. He start to write poems and narrative and in 1597 Shakespeare became co-owner of the London Globe theater. After the plague, all theatres closed in London so he started to write himself. Until 1668 he wrote mainly tragedies (Hamlet,Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth).
-In 1593, the Bubonic plague closed the theatres of London after that Shakespeare start to write poems and drama. He became popular after writing plays like Taming of the Shrew and A Midsummer Night’s Dream
-Shakespeare was born 6 years after Elizabeth I became queen. - During the time when she was the queen London’s learning skills and literature grew very large. - Elizabeth’s era of learning and literature allowed for Shakespeare to achieve success in the theater.
-Elizabeth noticed the importance of arts in her nation. -She enjoyed the theater and enjoyed England's greatest playwrights such as Christopher Marlowe, Ben Jonson, and William Shakespeare. -With her permission people started making theaters all around the city.
-After the death of queen Elizabeth, King James I had gotten the power. -King James was a writer but he loved learning about the theater. -Him and Shakespeare's company changed the Latin bible into an english bible and it became the best selling book in the world.
-When King James died in 1628 his son became the king who was King Charles I. -He lost a war against Puritans -Then Charles I’s son Charles II fled to france. -For years the Puritans closed the theaters -When Charles II came back he got the throne back and opened the theaters.
