What is POISE?

P O I S E P = Plan O = Organize I = Initiate S = Self-monitor E = Evaluate

P = PLAN

Planning Means: 1.) Having a good idea. 2.) Setting a goal. 3.) Determining the best way to reach a goal. 4.) Creating a series of steps.

O = Organize Time Materials Space

Organizing Means: 1.) Create order in own environment a. work b. play c. school desk/locker d. backpack e. bedroom

Organizing Means: 2.) Keep track of items. 3.) Keep track of time. 4.) Cleaning up belongings. 5.) Needed materials are available.

I = INITIATE IMPLEMENT

I = Initiate Initiating Means: 1) to start / kick off / set in motion. 2) The ability to begin a task or activity without being prompted. 3) The ability to independently generate: a. Ideas b. Responses c. Problem-solving strategies

S = Self-monitor Self-monitoring means: 1.) Ability to check his/her own performance during or shortly after finishing a task. 2.) Ensure he/she has accurately or appropriately attained the desired goal. 3.) Awareness of the effect his/her own behavior has on others.

E = Evaluate the Plan Evaluating Means: 1.) Reviewing tasks / activities. 2.) Determining the need to make changes. 3.) Questioning results.
