Possible thesis statements: Similarities Although both logos feature patriots, the newer version is completely updated. … the newer version seems targeted to a younger, more energetic audience. … the newer version is more versatile. … the design of the newer logo gives it a more modern feel. … changing the focus and the perspective in the new logo releases the potential energy of the old logo. Team (Patriots) Object (patriot) Colors (red, white, blue) Differences Orientation (vertical / horizontal) Compactness (square-ish / stretched) Direction (front-facing / side-facing) Object (whole person / head) Colors (lighter blue / darker blue) Level of detail (realistic / stylized) Energy (potential / dynamic) Age (old / modern) Focus (football player / motion) Appeal (older fans / younger fans) Ease of drawing (hard / easy to draw)

9/24 HW: summarize Monsanto articles, pp 683-704 and 875-79   9/29 Bring one-page summary/analysis of “Monsanto’s Harvest of Fear”; discuss in class 10/1 Bring one-page summary/analysis of “Does Monsanto Sue Farmers”; discuss in class 10/6 Bring bullet-point list of similarities and differences between Monsanto articles 10/8 Bring complete draft of Paper 3. HW: finish Paper 3 (Note: Parents’ Day is 10/10.) 10/13 Paper 3 (comparison) due (midterm week). Use remaining class time to work on drafting Paper 3. You will bring a complete draft (i.e., at least 800 words) to class Thursday.

Moving forward on your draft of Paper #3 If your bullet list is too short, generate more points. When you’re ready, generate some possible thesis statements. Have a classmate evaluate each thesis. Try to generate more possible statements, based on your lists. If you have a draft, have a classmate check your thesis: Is it reasonable? (Is it a complete sentence?) Do you have enough data to support it? If you have a draft, have a classmate check the rest of the draft: Do you have adequate support for the thesis? Does each paragraph have a clear topic sentence? Does every topic sentence support the thesis? Does every sentence support/explain/clarify the topic sentence? Is each sentence grammatically & mechanically correct?
