BEFORE YOU READ THE VELDT… WE MUST UNDERSTAND HOW CHILDREN ARE INFLUENCED AND HOW THEY CAN POTENTIALLY INFLUENCE OTHERS… CHILDREN CAN BE MOLDED AT A VERY YOUNG AGE BY: - ROLE MODELS - PARENTS - MEDIA CHILDREN CAN ALSO ADAPT, EVOLVE AND BECOME THE ONE THAT INFLUENCES OTHERS

THE WITCH VS. CHARLES BY SHIRLEY JACKSON THE WITCH focuses on a young curious boy who meets a rather impressionable old man on a train. CHARLES focuses on a young boys first three weeks in kindergarten and how he interacts with his parents.

THE WITCH HOW IS THE OLD MAN AND INFLUENTIAL FIGURE IN THE BOY`S LIFE? HOW DOES THE MOM REACT AT THE BEGINING, MIDDLE AND END OF THE STORY? WHAT DOES THIS STORY SAY ABOUT PARENTING? WHERE DOES THE SUDDEN CHANGE IN ATMOSPHERE TAKE PLACE? DO YOU THINK THERE IS ANY TRUTH TO THE OLD MAN`S STORY? WHAT TYPE OF CONFLICT IS PRESENT?

CHARLES WHAT IS THE PLOT TWIST? WHY DO YOU THINK LAURIE CREATED THIS ALTERNATE PERSONA? WHAT IS IRONIC ABOUT WHAT THE MOTHER SAID IN RELATION TO CHARLES? FIND THE ANAGRAM IN LAURIE`S NAME WHAT CONFLICT IS PRESENT?

THE WITCH VS CHARLES HOW IS THE LITTLE BOY FROM « THE WITCH » AND LAURIE FROM « CHARLES » DIFFERENT? WHO IS INFLUENCING WHOM?
