Bonds cut-and-paste activity 2-3L

Use a white or light colored letter size paper. Fold it twice to get 4 equal areas. Top two areas: Draw atom models for Na, and F Bottom two areas: Draw atom models for F, and F Bond CutAndPaste.ppt

Na F F F

Adding electrons Make electrons by punching red paper. Each red dot represents an electron Paste electrons in the atoms, following the electron config (1s2, 2s2, .. etc.) Intentionally, do not paste any electrons that need to be “lost” Intentionally, leave a blank space where you are going to gain electrons. Bond CutAndPaste.ppt

Making stable configs. All your atoms want to be perfect octets. Demonstrate Na becoming an octet Demonstrate F becoming an octet Bottom 2 F’s: How do these become octets? Bond CutAndPaste.ppt
