Holy Week 2018

Palm Sunday Jesus rode into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover. As he came into town the people greeted him like a king. They threw down palms and clothes kind of like a “red carpet” and shouted praise. The first graders reenacted this scene (a couple times) using palms they made. “It was very exciting and fun.” “I bet this is kind of how the people of Jerusalem felt!”, said the first graders during a discussion afterward.

Today was Holy Monday. We read the story of how Jesus went to the Temple to pray but instead found people selling animals and things. We were reminded that Jesus cleansed the Temple by throwing these people out so that is could be a place of worship. We also learned that Jesus’ actions made the Temple leaders angry. After a discussion about the word “cleansed” and the story we read the first graders worked to clean our classroom so that it can be a place for prayer and learning too.
