EMPhasis on Mutant Microglia: Dysregulation of Brain Sentinels Induces Neurodegeneration  Bettina Schreiner, Melanie Greter  Cell Stem Cell  Volume 21, Issue 5, Pages 566-568 (November 2017) DOI: 10.1016/j.stem.2017.10.006 Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 Targeting Braf(V600E) in Microglia Causes Neurodegenerative Disease Tamoxifen administration at E8.5 leads to the mosaic expression of Braf(V600E) in erythro-myeloid precursors (EMPs). EMPs in the yolk sac (YS) differentiate into primitive macrophages (MF) and colonize the developing brain where they give rise to microglia. In adult mice, microglia display an activated phenotype leading to neurodegenerative disease including deposition of amyloid precursor protein (APP), neuronal death, and demyelination. Braf inhibition delays the onset of the neurological phenotype. Cell Stem Cell 2017 21, 566-568DOI: (10.1016/j.stem.2017.10.006) Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. Terms and Conditions
