Memories to last a lifetime! NATURE’S CLASSROOM Memories to last a lifetime!

WHAT IS IT? Unique educational experience for students Overnight field trip for three nights, four days Field groups that explore the natural environment Special Interest Classes that the student chooses Academic and Social community Evening Activities Students develop a sense of community, a confidence in themselves, and an appreciation for others A FUN, REWARDING, UNIQUE, and MEMORABLE experience that students will never forget!

WHEN AND WHERE IS IT? We will be going on this trip, Tuesday October 9h- Friday, Oct. 12th, 2018 Nature’s Classroom is in Ivoryton, CT. Located near Long Island Sound with sandy and rocky beaches and salt water marshes to explore. It also has 2 ponds, streams, a cedar swamp, and farm animals on location!

WHERE DO STUDENTS SLEEP? Students all have private rooms that they share with 3 or 5 other bunk mates. Students share a common bathroom, with shower stalls. Housing has a common room for evening hang outs Boys are on one floor, and girls are on a separate floor Students have a choice in who they room with for the trip

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE? In your packets, you will see some sample schedules and sample Special Interest Classes Typically, wake up around 7 am, to get ready for breakfast at 8:00. Then students move into field groups led by a Nature’s Classroom teacher. They explore outside. Lunch is usually around 12 pm. After lunch, students attend two special interest classes of their choice. Students have several Transition Times (recess/leisure/free times) throughout the day. Dinner is at 6 pm. At 7 pm the students participate in an Evening activity (science fair, night hike, Underground Railroad) Students are busy and are having fun all day long!

WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE? Most students LOVE the food at Nature’s classroom. We have attached a sample menu in your packets. Nature’s classroom has a full-time cook Please let the teachers know in advance of food allergies. Nature’s Classroom tries to accommodate you the best they can. Everyone will fill out a health form in the fall Students miss the food when they leave!

WHAT ABOUT THE STAFF? Nature’s Classroom teachers all have bachelor’s degrees. Many are going into the teaching field. Maintain a teacher to student ratio of one to twelve or less There is a nurse, EMT, or medical person on site or on call at all times. The children have 24 hr. adult supervision. (Teachers from CMS sleep in the same buildings and watch the children as well.)

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? Nature’s Classroom costs $370 per student. Payments can be made in installments as detailed in the handout. A deposit of $80 is needed by May 11th to hold your child’s place. We will do some fundraising to help with cost. Yankee Candles is what we are having the students sell to help pay for some of the trip. The amount students sell will be directly taken off their cost for the trip.
