Presentation transcript:

The Apps I use Use a variety of apps, and websites in my class. Majority of time I use youtube and google. Other apps that see a lot of use in my classroom are Dragon dictation and Kahoot. A mainstay for me is the Today in History app

Youtube.com I use you tube a lot. Previously I taught world history and this is an easy way to retrieve information in depth on specific topics within the discipline. You tube is primarily used as augmentation of my lessons Students benefit from retrieving information on their own and hearing information from someone else Outputs are based on developing questions based from material viewed on you tube

Dragon Dictation I have found this is a great tool for my students that struggle with note taking, typing, etc. Dragon dictation is a talk to type app that allows students who are auditory learners to retain more of lectures and activities then they would if they were taking notes. Outputs can be exported to word or docs for easy management. The app has some of the same issues as Siri or other talk to type platforms in that many times it is not 100 per cent accurate. Heavy editing is often required for final output. This is a substitution on the SAMR model, but very useful.

Kahoot! Kahoot is a great way to make use of cell phones and other electronics that may not always be welcome in your classroom. One of the things I really enjoy doing is giving assessments in this manner. Rather then grading the output, we are measuring understanding in real time and its fun for the kids. Instant feedback for the students and for me. Haven’t used this on a chromebook but works pretty well on phones! This is also Substitution, saves on paper and you don’t need a pen/pencil! I like to start class with a kahoot.

Today in History Really easy to use and can be related to most any lesson in history class. Five categories, headlines, events, births, deaths, and holidays. Students can begin to research a specific area based on the results of the day Site has added links to more in depth articles about any of the categories. Students can develop inquiries. I would rank the use of this app as Modification as we can do so many different things with the information.

Today In History

Today In History

Today In History Fairly straight forward app I really like that students can use it to link to different information and also learn how to use Wikipedia correctly. Provides many opportunities for added instruction or more research for students. Is a quality way to start a class period.
