Nixon Part II

I. 1968 Election Nixon’s administration sent people to break in to the Democrats headquarters at the Watergate Hotel to gain info. Burglars were caught but the public paid little attention to this at first. Nixon won in a landslide.

II. Foreign policy Nixon called for détente, a more flexible way of dealing with communist nations Signed SALT I with the Soviet Union which limited the amount of missiles each nation would have. opened up relations with China.

C. Peace in Vietnam 1. Nixon signed an agreement with the North Vietnamese to stop fighting and made a secret agreement with the South Vietnamese that the US would return if the North invaded again .

V. Watergate Returns The Washington Post continued to write stories about it and linked many government officials to the break in. The Senate demanded that Nixon turn over tapes he had of all his recorded conversations. C. The tapes provided evidence that Nixon knew about the break-in and attempted to cover it up. D. This caused Nixon to resign.
