European Championship BMX 2013 Engelholms BMX Klubb

BMX Bicycle Moto Cross Bicycle moto cross (BMX) started in the late 60s in California, just about the same time as motorcross became a popular sport in the United States. In April 1981, the International BMX federation was founded and the first World Championships took place in Since 1993, BMX has been fully integrated with Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). BMX made a successful debut in the Olympics in Beijing In the Olympics in London the races became even better and the popularity increased. Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) is the European cycliste union which together with Engelholms BMX Klubb arranges the European Championship 7 & 8 in Ängelholm.

About 1500 participants from 20 countries compete in 12 races around Europe. Sweden and Ängelholm arrange two of these races as the only town in Scandinavia. The race will take place on the 1st and 2nd of June. We expect about 1000 participants in Ängelholm. Last time a European Championship took place in Sweden was in We expect about 3000 – 4000 spectators each race day.

The track is designed by Tom Ritzenthaler, founder of Elite Trax. Tom is a former professional BMX rider. He has more than 15 years of experience of trackconstructions. All UCI Supercross World Cup and UCI BMX World Championship tracks since 2003 are built by Tom. Also the tracks in Beijing and London are built by Tom. Two of the employees from Elite Trax were in Ängelholm one week in October 2012.

The cycling trend in Sweden points straight up and with our activity on club levels we will recrute children and youth who wants to start with BMX racing. BMX lays a good foundation for all cycling. Together with you sponsors and our 200 officials, we look forward to the big weekend in 2013 in Ängelholm on Swedens best BMX arena which is of highest international class. The competition classes are : Elite Elite menmale riders,19 years and older Elite womenfemale riders,19 years and older Junior menmale rider,17 and 18 years old Junior womenfemale riders,17 and 18 years old Challenge classes Boys 8 and under, 9+10, 11+12, 13+14, Men 17/24, 25/29, 30 + (Masters 20) Girls 8 and under, 9+10, 11+12, 13+14, Women17 + Cruisers Boys/ Men13+14, 15+16, 17-24, 25-29, 30-39, and 45 and over.
