X Your annotations show that you have a good understanding of the technical requirements when using a DSLR camera. 1.2 Apply media processes and skills safely and appropriately.  You have shown that you can apply media processes safely and your final outcomes are of a satisfactory standard. 2.1 Critically compare a range of communication methods used to convey meaning in creative media production.  Your annotations show that you have some understanding of how images can be used to convey meaning in photojournalism. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Date: 11th June 2014

Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral Unit 2: Introduction to design and research skills in creative media production Assessor: Shelina Mawani-Markin Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria; Student name: Charlotte Leeson Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Critically compare a range of research tools, methods and skills.         x Charlotte, you have discussed the topic very well. Your introductory paragraphs are excellent in terms of setting the context for research I.e. the purpose, importance of audience profiling, etc. You have evaluated tools, research methods and skills required for journalism discussing both advantages and disadvantages. You have included a detailed discussion of multimedia skills e.g. podcasts, online video, interactivity, etc.  2.1 Critically compare a range of primary and secondary research sources. As above 3.1 Apply design and research tools, methods and skills to record and interpret information and develop ideas for creative production.  Research portfolio is thorough Charlotte. You have included evidence of having conducted primary and secondary research for your interactive poster. Next time, I would like you to include more interpretation of your results and some thoughts on how the findings are progressing your project. 3.2 Evaluate the effectiveness of design and research tools methods and skills.  Your evaluation is very good as you have highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of your research planning an execution. You have suggested ways in which you have improved but you could just expand a little more on this. For example, could you have benefited from using focus groups, or from interviewing customers at the venue? You could try to suggest ways of improving your secondary research, for example, maybe you could have researched similar posters to i8dentify the type of content you could include. Well done. YOU HAVE NOT ADDED ALL UNIT 2 BLOG POSTS TO THE UNIT 2 MENU. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Date: 11th June 2014

Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral Unit 3: Introduction to professional practice in creative media production Assessor: Tracy Mitchell / Shelina Mawani-Markin Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria; Student name: Charlotte Leeson Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Locate, access and use information to support own development. x You have sourced stories, conducted interviews and researched a job role in the media industry to a high standard, well done. Critically evaluate a range of working practices and methods. You have demonstrated an excellent understanding of journalistic theory Charlotte, and have evaluated your application of the theory very well. Well done. There are some grammatical errors in your writing about your photojournalism piece, Just take care to avoid that. Also, you say that you found this difficult because you don't know many interesting people. Remember that, as a journalist, you should be aware that everyone has a n interesting story to tell. There are interesting people around you all the time.  2.1  Apply knowledge of working practices to support own development See feedback on your portfolio submissions on Wordpress 3.1 Organise self and work to meet deadlines and targets. You continually worked in a manner that enabled you to meet deadlines – an essential skill for a journalist. 3.2 . Demonstrate consideration and professionalism in working with others. You have shown a professionalism in conducting primary research (interviews and surveys)  and news sourcing. Has the student passed the Unit? Pass: Referral: Referral Actions: Date: 11th June 2014

Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral Unit 4 : Critical and Contextual awareness in Creative Media Production Assessor: Shelina Mawani-Markin Assessment & Grading Recording Sheet To achieve a Pass grade the learner must achieve all of the following criteria; AAA Student name: Charlotte Leeson Assessment Criteria for PASS R= Referral, S = satisfactory, HS = High Standard, VHS = Very High Standard R S HS VHS Summary of Evidence/Reason for Referral 1.1 Compare a range of critical perspectives that influence the analysis of creative media production activities.         x 4.1.1 Critical evaluation of ways of analysing journalism texts You have evaluated the Galtung and Ruge theory of news values very well. You have explained the theory, applied it an analysis in order to evaluate its usefulness. Your explanations and application to a range of news stories demonstrates good academic and practical understanding. You have concluded that it is useful in relation to analysing newspapers but less so for analysing magazines. You have explained your reasoning satisfactorily. You have also applied and explained Steve Neale's theory on genre. The explanation of Neale's theory could have been more detailed. For example, you could have contextualised the theory as one that stemmed from an analysis of film. You have evaluated it with reference to music magazines. 1.2 Apply knowledge of critical perspectives that influence the analysis of creative media production activities.  4.1.2, 4.1.3 Journalism genres and news values You have analysed examples of journalism content to identify generic codes and conventions. You have analysed relevant examples of video journalism, photography and audio within journalism to explore differences and similarities between journalism genres. You needed to discuss news values in more detail in relation to these texts. You have made insightful comments that demonstrate clearly an ability to apply critical perspectives appropriately and with purpose. You have selected appropriate examples to analyse.  1.3 Apply knowledge and understanding of critical perspectives to support own practice. You have selected a specific magazine feature article to analyse in order to determine the extent to which feature writing conventions have been applied and which new s values have made the article newsworthy. You have identified codes and conventions as well as news values. Your analysis is brief however. You have not discussed feature writing conventions in depth. For example, you have not discussed whether or rules such '5 Ws' has been applied. You have contextualised the specific example you have used could have  discussed how the context would impact on the form and the content of the feature article, and how the target audience would influence whether or not the story is newsworthy.  2.1 Critically compare a range of contexts within which creative media technology and production are situated.  4.2.1, 4.2.2 The impact of media law and regulation on journalism practice . You have comparted how the print journalism industry and broadcast journalism industry are regulated differently. You have demonstrated a very good understanding of the key terms and processes involved in media regulation specifically journalism. You have understand how journalism ethics are at the heart of codes of practice. You have explained the external laws, and have discussed them in more detail. You have discussed the different circumstances in which these laws might be applicable and examples have been used to illustrate your points. You have applied parts of the Editor's code and two laws to your Fmp, although this discussion could be more detailed. 2.2 Apply an understanding of a range of contextual parameters to support own creative development.  As above Has the student passed the Unit?
