National Officiating Certification Program The National Officiating Certification Program is a “National” Program with input from all member associations. Referees are certified by each of the Provinces and assigned a Level according the criteria set by the Referee Development Committee Five levels of officials Progression through the levels is achieved by a combination of Practical experience (both playing and officiating) Attendance at a clinic Attained a passing grade on an exam Favourable supervision and evaluations 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Level 1 Attendance at a Level 1-2 Clinic Must attain a score of 50% on a written exam Should gain experience in high school and all levels of youth lacrosse 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Level 2 Attendance at a Level 1-2 Clinic Must attain a score of 70% on a written exam Has completed at least one year of officiating Capable of officiating at all levels of Provincial levels of play 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Level 2 The completion of two favourable assessments by two Provincially accredited evaluators Must have as a minimum, a presentable warm weather referees uniform and equipment as outlined in the CLA Referee Uniform Policy 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Level 3 Attendance at a Level 3 Clinic Must attain a score of 80% on a written exam Must have officiated at a Field Lacrosse Provincial Championship Officiating experience must have included working as a CBO in upper level games 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Level 3 Capable of assuming a supervisory/instructional role Capable of officiating at a National Field Lacrosse Championship The completion of two favourable assessments by two Provincially/Nationally accredited evaluators 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Level 3 You will be required to display a level of fitness that is consistent with refereeing at a Provincial Championships. Must have a full and presentable referees uniform and equipment as outlined in the CLA Referee Uniform Policy Attendance at a Level 3 clinic will be by invitation of the PMA RIC only 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
National Officiating Certification Program Any official who has been inactive for a period of two to four years, and returns to the game, will be returned one level below that at which they left Any official who has been inactive for a period of five years or more, and returns to the game, will be returned two levels below that at which they left Officials, who wish to transfer to another Provincial Member Association, must first have the approval of the two PMA Referee-In-Chiefs 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
CLA Uniform Policy This policy is developed to ensure consistency throughout Canada. All referees who wish to attend Nationals must certify that they meet the uniform standard or they may not be able to participate The standard uniform is broken into: Warm Weather Gear Cold Weather Gear 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
CLA Uniform Policy Warm Weather Gear includes Striped Shirt – Short Sleeve Black Shorts with belt loop Black Belt Black ankle or low cut socks Black Shoes (polished) Black Hat with white piping Undershirt if worn shall be black, and the sleeves should not extend below the striped shirtsleeves 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
CLA Uniform Policy Cold Weather Gear includes: Striped Shirt – Long Sleeve Black pants with belt loops Black socks Black Shoes (polished) Black Hat with white piping Black Belt Undershirt if worn shall be black, and the sleeves should not extend below the striped shirtsleeves. Black turtle neck shirts are permitted. Gloves – Black Black jacket or black shell for under the long sleeve shirt 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
Other Equipment You Must Have 2 Fox 40 Whistles, both carried on the field Could wear spare on lanyard 2 Yellow Flags (weighted) Should be in good shape, not just rags around a golf ball Scorecard (have several) Coin 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
Other Equipment You Must Have Pencils (have several and a sharpener) Also have a good eraser. Mr. Clean sponge works very well Tape Measure Must be a minimum of 6 feet. Should be small enough to carry with you during the game String (always a good idea) Watch Digital or with a second hand 2013 Module #1 – NOCP
