DIGESTIVE SYSTEM.

What Happens to Food Once it Enters Your Mouth?
DIGESTIVE SYSTEM The organs that break down food so that it can be used by the body. 1) Digestion, 2) Absorption, 3) Elimination The human body has systems.
Digestive System. Humans as Heterotrophs Hetero=another Trophe= nutrition As heterotrophs we cannot create carbon, therefore we need to ingest carbon.
Nutrients Every organism ( the cells) requires nutrients (macromolecules): The basic building blocks of all cell structures are built with these nutrients.
Human Body Digestive System.
Organ Systems. Organization Individual body units: cells Similar cells work together as: tissues 4 main types of tissue: Epithelial, connective, muscle,
THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM. MAIN ROLES OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM: 1.To breakdown nutrients 2.To absorb nutrients This is necessary for growth and maintenance.
Digestive System. Functions Ingestion  Food enters digestive tract through mouth Mechanical Processing  Physical manipulation of solid food (by t0ngue.
Digestive System Complex job of moving and breaking down food.

Digestive System Functions The Digestive System has 3 very important jobs: Ingest (bring in food) Digest (break down food) Egest (get rid of unusable.
THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM Recall the major organs of the human body and their functions within their particular body system.
Digestion Digestion is the process of breaking food down into molecules small enough for the body to absorb. Digestive system.
Unit 2: Internal Systems The Digestive System. Digestive System responsible for 4 major functions: 1. ingestion intake of nutrients (eating) 2. digestion.
Aim: Why do humans digest food? DO NOW: Think about the term digestion. 1.What does it mean to you? 2.Draw a picture representing what digestion means.

From Burger to bowl in 72 hours Digestion System From Burger to bowl in 72 hours

Purpose: To enable the absorption of the nutrients needed for growth, maintenance and repair

Components of Digestion Ingestion = the taking in of nutrients = enters by mouth Digestion = the breakdown of complex organic molecules into smaller components by physical & chemical means Physical – done by teeth, and stomach Chemical – done by mouth, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, small intestine

Absorption The taking up of digested molecules into our cells Done by stomach, small intestine (villi), large intestine small intestine (villi)

Egestion The removal of waste from the body Done by large intestine, rectum and anus
