1 Timothy 1:18-20 2. False Teachers Disciplined: 1. Faithful to the Truth and Conscience -Know and Stand for the truth -Teach the whole counsel of God -Know truth – do what is right. 2. False Teachers Disciplined: - “Rejected” the truth: to teach a condemnable doctrine. - “Shipwreck” the faith – convince others of error. - “Delivered to Satan” – 1 John 5:19; Rom. 6:17-18; Colossians 1:13

Matthew 18:15-20 1. The Problem: 2. The Procedure: - “a brother sins against you.” -Specific, but not exact. 2. The Procedure: -Private Meeting -Small Group Meeting: (Deut. 19:15) -Revealed to the Church -Disciplinary Action: “let him be to you as a heathen and tax collector.”

1 Corinthians 5:1-13 1. The Situation (verses 1-2) -The Sin of the Man and the Church: Sexual immorality (adultery or fornication). Response from the church was wrong. 2. The Solution (verses 3-13) -What? “remove from among you” and “deliver to Satan.” -Why? Reasons: (1) Purify his soul, (2) Purity of the church, (3) Passover of Christ, (4) Previous Commands.

2 Thessalonians 3:6-15 1. The Command Toward the Sinner (v 6) -What? “keep away” -Who? A brother who walks in idleness. 2. The Circumstances of the Sinner (vs 7-12) -The example of Paul (vs 7-9) -The Commands of Paul (vs 10-12): “man won’t work, neither shall he eat.” “work quietly, earn a living.” -The Criteria on treating the sinner (vs 13-15): (1)Take note, (2) have nothing to do with, (3) shamed feelings, (4) brother warned.

1. What is church discipline? “Fellowship” – found 14 times in the NT. Basic idea is sharing, join participation, community, association. A 2 sided relation. There is a difference between those who abandon the fellowship, and those who are still in fellowship in matters of church discipline. A recognition is still needed.

1. What is church discipline? “deliver to Satan” – 1 Tim. 1:19; 1 Cor. 5:5 “let him to you as a gentile and a tax collector” – Matthew 18:17 “removed from among you” - 1 Cor. 5:11 “not associate with” – 1 Cor. 5:11 “purge from among them – 1 Cor. 5:13 “have nothing to do with” – 2 Thess. 3:13-15

ANY SIN/ THING COULD CAUSE HIM TO LOSE HIS SOUL! 2. Who is disciplined? ANY SIN/ THING COULD CAUSE HIM TO LOSE HIS SOUL! -Brother who sins against you – Mat. 18 -Cause division – Rom. 16:17 -Immoral sins – 1 Cor. 5 -False doctrine – 1 Tim. 1 -Those who are able to work, but refuse – 2 Thess. 3

3. Why and When is it Practiced? -The process of Matthew 18; Galatians 6:1. Why? -Gain a brother – Matthew 18 -learn not to blaspheme – 1 Timothy 1 -Soul saved – 1 Cor. 5 -Purity of the church – 1 Cor. 5 -Jesus is our Passover – 1 Cor. 5 -Shame him to save him – 2 Thess. 3
