Language Arts: Monday 4-8 I.N. 25 Create a list of “timed writing” situations you may be in during your life. Try to think of as many as possible. Create a Venn Diagram (with enough room to write in) on your I.N. 25. On one side, describe the characteristics of timed writing. On the other, describe the characteristics of simply writing an essay for class. In the middle, write the similarities in both.

Language Arts: Monday 4-8 I.N. 25 (Take Notes in your I.N. 25) How to Dissect a Writing Prompt: Underline/ Circle key words and phrases Rewrite the prompt in your own words. State it as a question if possible. Draw an organizer to show how the key words/ ideas are related to one another.

Everyone performs tasks every day whether they are as simple as making breakfast or as difficult as repairing a bicycle. To complete these tasks, there is a process that must be done to do it successfully. Think of a task you do well. Write an essay in which you explain the process it takes to complete the task successfully. Imagine that the reader of your essay has never done this task before and needs to know each step of the process.

Continue to record your steps in your I.N. 25 Answer the following question after you followed the steps: What kind of essay would you say this prompt is asking for? (example: persuasive, process, narrative/story, pro/con, report, etc.) What words in the prompt show you that?

With the person sitting next to you (or independently), read through the long paragraph and decide where to begin and end new paragraphs inside it. Write the paragraph # and the word that starts and ends it in your I.N. 26 Raise your hand when you are finished, and you can get the homework for this week.

Language Arts: Wednesday 4-10 I.N. 27 Today, we will be practicing completing writing in a given amount of time. Before we begin, review your notes from this week so far. - Open your green textbook to page 310-311. Read one of the Reviews (A, B, C, or D) and follow the three step process for dissecting a prompt. You may need to look back on your notes from Monday. (I.N. 25) Write steps 1-3 in your I.N. 27. When you finish, read through the other prompts and sit quietly.

Language Arts: Wednesday 4-10 I.N. 27 You will have 40 minutes to complete Reviews A-D on pages 310-311. Give yourself 10 minutes for each prompt. Use a prewriting strategy for each paragraph. Label your paragraph and write neatly. (We will edit tomorrow) Be sure to stay on FOCUS. Finishing all four will be a grade.**extra credit: use vocabulary words and underline them.

Language Arts: Thursday 4-11 I.N. 28 What makes someone’s writing boring to read? What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who simply has boring writing? Have your green textbook open to page 304.

Be sure to label in the margin where you added a detail, fact, or example. When you finish you may study for the Vocabulary Test tomorrow or work on your homework packet.

Language Arts: Friday 4-12 You have three minutes to study for the vocabulary test. I will collect your vocabulary packet before the test, so have it out to study. When you finish, turn it in at THE HUB. Take a Practice AIMS test. Begin the practice AIMS test by reading and following directions. When you finish, read silently or work on other homework.
