Of Mice and Men Pre-reading

Activity One You are expected to create a T- chart for the following statements. Label one side agree and one side disagree You are expected to come up with three supports for each side Agree and Disagree

Statements Curley’s wife is a “tramp.” In chapter 4, Crooks states what might be his philosophy of life when he says, “ Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody gets no land. It’s just in their head.” George is better off without Lennie. The theme of this book may have something to do with “loneliness.”

Activity Two In groups, you will be completing the handout. You must, as a group, pick one character that you feel most sorry for Then, you will find quotes to support why you feel sorry for them. We will discuss in class

Distinction Sympathy Empathy Sharing the feeling of another Having a similar experience with another person Empathy Identifying feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another When you feel bad for someone else, but with out having experienced it or something similar yourself
