The Power of Time When I think about ASHRAE all it means and all it can be, I think back to when I first got started. What could it be now if on the first day as a member I had to started a endowment, how far along could it be, how large could the ASRHAE Endowment for Research be? But when I think long term like that I think to myself what about these kids what kind of world will they have? What if the worst of the predictions about climate change are true, how do we explain our lack of action? What will be our excuse for not doing more sooner? These are the faces we will answer to. The power of time works for endowments as they last forever. To change the world we need do big things in a radical way. This is what it takes to have the positive effect we desire on the future, the power of time is the future. We owe this work to these kids, their children, and grandchildren.

Dream … We all dream, some of being a sports star, or being a movie star or being rich. I dream of a world where humans improve the environment and add to resources not degrade and deplete them. I would ask you that are here giving of your precious time and resources, what is your dream of a better future, how do we get there? We all know we can make a better world, is it important to you? for your children’s sake? Dreams can come true.

Would you build a house or start a project without a plan Would you build a house or start a project without a plan? Well we can not build that dream of a better future without a plan. If we want a better future we have to plan for a better future, Planning lets us set the table for the future, it lets us make a path, this is what we do now. My plan is for us to create an endowed fund so large we can perpetually fund research, more of it, and maybe even add money to accelerate it. Can we endow our plan for the future now. Plan …

Start … Then we have to start, and by that I mean take action, the time for talking about making the world a better place is over, we have already seen some of the weirdest climate ever I think it is time for action, time to think about making ASHRAE stronger, bigger, faster a time to endow contributions … Small now ever building forever.

Work … Our members know what work is, most have worked hard all their lives, because of this hard work you can now make a difference. We know the work that needs to be done, we know we have to change the will of the public, of the government to push the changes, to fund the research, to publish, to enact laws to get to the brighter world the future that are made of net zero and renewables for every structure, every home, office, school…. You worked hard, make it count!

It is not what we bought or have that we will be remembered for,it is what we gave that people will remember. Did we make a difference? Can we show our ancestors how much we cared? What we did to make their lives better? Did we leave a legacy we can be proud of? Endowed giving … Our legacy will be in the fact that we have built this tremendous resource to forever make our lives our children’s lives and our grandchildren’s lives better for the future generations, clean, low energy, elegant homes, offices, schools Let the future start with you, let the future be now, make pledge today for a Endowment for ASHRAE Research. Legacy …
